Brindlewood had a better product than its category leaders but domain authority a third of theirs, capping rankings for every commercial term.
Brindlewood is a bootstrapped, eleven-person team in Tallinn building an accessible, GDPR-first form builder. Its reviews beat the category leaders on usability; its rankings didn’t reflect it. For “form builder”, “online form builder” and “survey maker” it sat on pages four to six, behind rivals whose ad budgets funded the very publications that wrote the comparison guides.
Buying links would have been faster and fragile. The brief was the opposite: earn the citations those publications would give anyway, if Brindlewood gave them something worth citing.
