The demand was exact. The catalogue was not.
Engineers searched by exact part number, but the catalogue sat in PDFs and behind a login.
A maintenance engineer with a failed valve on a press line does not search for “hydraulic valves”. They read the code off the plate and type it, often with a slash missing. Vitosha stocked thousands of those codes in Sofia, but none of them existed as a page. The searches went to marketplaces and to the manufacturers’ own PDFs.
We treated the site like a circuit that would not hold pressure: find every leak before adding power.
| Item | Qty | Finding | Severity |
|---|---|---|---|
| F-01Content | 14 PDFs | 9,000 part numbers lived in scanned and exported PDF catalogues. Google indexed the files, but a part number on page 212 never surfaced as its own result. | Critical |
| F-02Access | 100% | Price, stock and lead time sat behind a trade login, so even the catalogue pages that existed carried no offer data for Google to read. | Critical |
| F-03Technical | 38,400 | Faceted filters (bore, stroke, pressure, thread) produced crawlable URL combinations; Googlebot spent its crawl on duplicates instead of products. | High |
| F-04Technical | 1,200 | The pages that were indexed were thin category stubs with near-identical titles: "Products | Vitosha Hydraulics". | High |
| F-05Search | 3 forms | Codes were written with slashes, spaces or neither (4WE6D6X/EG24 vs 4WE6D6XEG24). Site search and Google only matched one spelling. | Medium |
| F-06Commerce | 0 | No Merchant Center feed and no Product schema, so Shopping and the free product listings were out of reach. | High |
Four components, one pressure line from ERP to search result.
Built on our Commerce SEO plan (Ecommerce SEO). Each tactic plays the role of one part in the circuit: product feeds, part-number pages, product schema, faceted navigation.
- P1
Pump — pressure source
Product feeds
The ERP export became a nightly product feed: 9,000 SKUs with GTIN or MPN, price, stock and lead time pushed to Merchant Center and to the site at once. The catalogue stopped being a document and became a data supply.
- A1
Actuator — does the work
Part-number pages
One indexable page per part number, generated from the feed: the code as the H1 in every spelling engineers type, dimensions, pressure rating, CAD drawing, cross-references and public trade pricing. Login now only unlocks account prices.
- C1
Check valve — one-way, no leaks
Product schema
Product, Offer and BreadcrumbList schema on every part page, validated against the feed so the structured price can never drift from the visible one. Rich results and free listings followed.
- V1
Directional valve — routes the flow
Faceted navigation
Faceted navigation rebuilt: bore, stroke and pressure filters stay crawlable as curated landing pages where demand exists; the other 37,000 combinations are canonicalised and kept out of the crawl.
16 months, from cold start to full pressure.
