How a six-person roofing crew took the Plovdiv map pack after every hailstorm

01 · The challenge

The storms came. The calls went somewhere else.

Storm-driven demand spiked several times a year but went to lead aggregators; the crew had an unverified Business Profile and a single-page site.

Plovdiv gets three or four serious hailstorms a year. Each one sends searches for roof repair up fivefold for about ten days. Varnel’s six roofers were good enough to be booked solid by word of mouth, but in those ten days homeowners searched on their phones, in the rain, and tapped whatever the map showed first: usually a lead aggregator that sold the job on to the highest bidder. The crew was busy at exactly the moments it could have been building a local reputation.

02 · Inspection report

We went up the ladder before we touched anything.

2 critical · 4 major · 2 minor

  1. 01

    CriticalLocal

    Business Profile never verified

Pinned to the owner's home in Trakia with “Construction company” as the primary category. Google had no reason to show it for “roofer”.

  2. 02

    CriticalLocal

    Three phone numbers in circulation

An old landline, a mobile and an aggregator's tracking number across 14 directories. Inconsistent NAP split the crew's local signal three ways.

  3. 03

    MajorContent

    One page for everything

A single scrolling page: no page per service, none per neighbourhood, and the word “hail” appeared nowhere on the site.

  4. 04

    MajorReviews

12 reviews, newest 14 months old

Competitors in the pack averaged 90+. Nobody asked a customer for a review after the ladder came down.

  5. 05

    MajorTechnical

    No structured data

No LocalBusiness / RoofingContractor markup, no areaServed, no opening hours, so nothing told search engines where the crew works.

  6. 06

    MajorTechnical

    5.8 s mobile LCP

A 4.1 MB hero photo, and the phone number was part of an image, so it could not be tapped on a phone in the rain.

  7. 07

    MinorLocal

Zero job photos on the profile

Map-pack rivals showed 60+ geotagged before/after shots; Varnel showed a logo.

  8. 08

    MinorContent

    No storm-response promise

Nothing said “we come out after hail” — the one message storm-hit homeowners search for.

03 · The strategy

A roof is built in layers. So was this.

Four tactics, laid in the order a roofer would: structure first, weatherproofing last. The engagement ran on our Local plan, scoped for one city and sixteen neighbourhoods.

01 · The ridge

Google Business Profile

The most visible line of the roof: the listing that appears in Maps.

  • Verified at the yard address in Proslav, primary category set to Roofing contractor, 9 secondary services added.
  • Service area drawn over 16 neighbourhoods instead of a home pin radius.
  • Weekly Posts and a storm-alert post template published within 2 hours of a hail warning.
  • 142 geotagged before/after job photos uploaded across the nine months.

02 · The courses

Service-area pages

Rows of tiles, each one overlapping the next: one page per neighbourhood and service.

  • 16 neighbourhood pages, each with local job photos, typical roof types and a real response time.
  • 6 service pages: repair, re-tiling, waterproofing, gutters, chimneys, hail damage.
  • A hail-damage page with an insurance-claim checklist, live before every storm season.
  • Tap-to-call as text, above the fold, on every page.

03 · The weathering

Review velocity

A roof earns its colour over time; reviews do the same, steadily.

  • SMS request sent the evening a job is signed off, with a direct review link.
  • Crew lead hands over a printed QR card with the invoice.
  • Every review answered within 48 hours, naming the neighbourhood and the job.
  • Target pace of 15 a month, never bursts, to keep the pattern natural.

04 · The battens

LocalBusiness schema

The hidden timber that holds everything level: structured data.

  • RoofingContractor markup with one consistent NAP, geo coordinates and opening hours.
  • areaServed listing all 16 neighbourhoods; Service markup on every service page.
  • The 14 directory listings corrected to the same name, address and number.
  • Breadcrumb markup tying neighbourhood pages back to the service hubs.
