Card I · The invitation

The challenge

Wedding directories and big-box bridal retailers captured the research phase; Quillon only appeared when brides already knew its name.

A Toronto bride starts looking roughly fourteen months before the wedding. For the first ten of them she is researching: silhouettes, budgets, which designers are stocked where, what an appointment involves. Every one of those searches went to a directory listing thirty boutiques at once.

Quillon had the expertise, a stylist team with two decades of fittings and the city’s deepest designer list, but none of it was written down where search could read it. The brief: be the answer during research, so the appointment follows naturally.

Bring the shoes you plan to wear, a strapless bra and two or three photos of styles you love. Most Toronto boutiques, including Quillon, hold appointments for 90 minutes.

Card II · The details card

The diagnosis

A three-week audit across the site, the search results and the booking path. Six findings decided the plan.
  • Search landscape

    7 / 10

    Directories owned the research phase

Wedding directories and two national chains held 7 of the top 10 for “bridal shops toronto”. Quillon ranked only for its own name.

  • Designer pages

    212

    212 gown pages, mostly invisible

Supplier copy pasted verbatim across stockists; a template noindex on every designer archive; no price band, fitting or stock information.

  • Content

    9 → 1

    A diary, not a library

140 blog posts with no hubs. Nine of them competed for “wedding dress shopping tips”, so none ranked above page three.

  • Structured data

    0

    Nothing machines could quote

No FAQ, Product or LocalBusiness markup. Answers to real bride questions lived in Instagram captions and staff heads.

  • AI search

    0 / 60

    Absent from AI Overviews

Of 60 tracked research questions that triggered an AI Overview, Quillon was cited in none; directories in 41.

  • Conversion

    3 steps

    A three-step booking maze

The fitting form sat behind a contact page, asked for a wedding date before a name and weighed 1.9 MB of scripts on mobile.

Card III · The order of service

The strategy

Built on our Content Engine plan (content & ai search): turn what the stylists know into the pages brides search for, in four movements.
  1. I · Topic clusters

    Four clusters, one hub each

Shop & visit, Designers, Planning FAQs and Silhouettes. Each hub links down to 10–18 answers and back up; the nine competing posts merged into one guide.

  2. II · Designer pages

    Every designer, a destination

Rewritten pages for 38 designers: in-store sizes, price band, fitting notes from the stylists and sample-sale timing, with the gowns gathered beneath.

  3. III · FAQ schema

    Answers, marked up

FAQPage markup on the planning hubs, Product on gowns and BridalShop LocalBusiness on the boutique, all validated and monitored monthly.

  4. IV · AI Overviews

    Written to be cited

Each answer opens with a 40–60 word, sourced reply an AI Overview can lift, then goes deeper with the boutique's own fitting data.
