Bin 01 · The challenge

48,000 drawers, one label template.

Tens of thousands of near-identical SKU pages were flagged as thin content, which dragged down the whole domain.

Every length of every bolt had its own URL, its own copy of the same 30 words and its own title. Google saw an ocean of near-duplicates, indexed a fraction and quietly discounted the category pages that actually deserved to rank. Revenue from search had flatlined at $0.9M a year while trade buyers in Cleveland and across the Midwest were ordering from national catalogues.

Each square ≈ 250 SKU pages. Blue: 18,000 flagged thin — 37.5% of the catalogue.

  • T-01Content

    18,000

Bin 03Strategy

Fewer, better pages. Sorted by thread.

Built on our Commerce SEO plan: four tactics, each one aimed at a finding in the audit — fold the duplicates, let only searched-for facets index, and make every surviving page richer than the 30-word template it replaced.

PF

Product feeds

A single attribute-clean feed powers Merchant Center, free listings and the site itself.

  • Thread pitch, grade, material and finish normalised into 31 attributes
  • GTIN and MPN backfilled from manufacturer data for 41,000 items
  • Bulk-pack variants grouped with item_group_id so they stop competing
FN

Faceted navigation

Nine facets earn an indexable URL because people search them; the rest stay filters.

  • Whitelist: diameter, thread, length, grade, material, finish, head, drive, standard
  • Other combinations noindex, follow with canonical to the clean parent
  • 18,000 single-length SKU pages merged into size-variant pages with 301s
PS

Product schema

Every variant page tells Google the price, stock, spec and bulk tiers in structured data.

  • Product + Offer + priceSpecification for 1 / 100 / 1,000-piece tiers
  • additionalProperty for thread pitch, tensile strength and standard
  • BreadcrumbList generated from the same attribute graph as the menu
IL

Internal linking

Links follow how engineers actually buy: by thread, by standard, by assembly.

  • ‘Pairs with’ modules join bolts to the nuts and washers that fit
  • Sibling-size rails on every variant page (M6 ← M8 → M10)
  • 140 orphaned categories reconnected; median click depth 6.1 → 3.2
