Grainhouse had 240,000 clips but thin, near-duplicate clip pages and uncontrolled facets diluted crawl and blocked rankings.
Grainhouse is an Austin library of independent cinematographers — hill country, Gulf coast, small-town Texas. Its footage was distinctive; its site was not. Every alternate take had its own page with the same tag-generated description, and every filter combination produced a fresh URL for crawlers to chase.
The result was a library competing against itself. Googlebot spent most of its visits on parameter pages, the canonical clips that buyers actually searched for were crawled once a quarter, and the big generalist marketplaces took every long-tail query by default.
