The challenge

Brilliant work lived only on Instagram; the studio had an unverified listing and no website pages for its services.

Gilliclaw Nail Atelier is one artist, one chair and a reputation for detailed nail art. Her Instagram held more than 1,400 finished sets — chrome, French, BIAB, hand-painted florals — yet someone searching “nail art cork” on Google never saw any of it.

The map pack was owned by larger salons with hundreds of reviews. The studio’s listing was unverified, filed under the wrong category and showed three photos. Without a website page for each service, Google had nothing to match to “gel nails” or “BIAB”. Bookings came from DMs only, and the quiet midweek slots stayed empty.

Diagnosis

Six chips in the polish

  • ListingCritical

Google Business Profile unverified; primary category set to “Beauty salon”, hours missing, no booking link.

  • PhotosCritical

3 owner photos on the listing versus 1,400+ finished sets on Instagram. Nothing geotagged, nothing captioned.

  • WebsiteHigh

A single link-in-bio page. No service pages for gel, BIAB, acrylics or nail art — nothing for Google to rank.

  • ReviewsHigh

12 reviews, newest 7 months old, none answered. Competitors in the pack average 140.

  • CitationsMedium

Studio name spelt three ways across 9 directories; an old flat address still listed on two of them.

  • ImagesMedium

Instagram exports named IMG_4471.jpg, 4.8 MB each, no alt text, no ImageObject markup.

The strategy

Four coats, applied in order — each one cures before the next.

Built on our Local plan: make the listing trustworthy, give Google the studio’s best asset — the photos — and keep fresh proof arriving every week.

  1. 01 · Base coatGoogle Business Profile

Verified the listing, set “Nail salon” as the primary category with “Nail art studio” secondary, wrote a 750-character description that names every service, and added a priced services menu plus a direct booking link.

    → Profile completeness 34% → 100%

  2. 02 · ColourPhoto SEO

Turned the Instagram archive into search assets: 6–8 finished sets a week uploaded natively, renamed (“chrome-french-biab-cork.jpg”), compressed to WebP under 180 KB, captioned with style and area, and reused on service pages with ImageObject markup.

    → 412 profile photos, up from 3

  3. 03 · GlossReview generation

A small card with a QR code handed over while the top coat cures — the exact moment a client is admiring her nails. Every review answered within 48 hours, naming the set so replies add relevant words.

    → ~18 new reviews a month

  4. 04 · Top coatLocal citations

One canonical name, address and phone. Fixed 9 conflicting listings, removed the old flat address, then added 14 Irish beauty, bridal and city directories that rank for Cork nail searches themselves.

    → 23 consistent citations
