Christmas boxes sell out on 17 December. Waitlist page captures demand for January.

The challenge

Gift-box products were hidden three clicks deep and missing from Shopping. Delivery-zone information was unclear, so the shop could not compete for gift searches across Ireland and the UK.

The farm grows native and rock oysters on the Atlantic edge of Galway Bay, and its online shop was built for restaurant re-orders, not for gifting. Every December, people across Ireland and the UK search for oyster gift boxes and seafood hampers — and every December those searches went to marketplaces and supermarkets. The products existed. Search engines simply could not see them, could not list them in Shopping, and could not tell a buyer in Manchester whether a chilled box would arrive in time.

The diagnosis

Six findings, opened like a shell: from the feed outward to the season.

  1. 01 · FeedCritical

    112 Shopping disapprovals

Missing GTIN / identifier_exists on own-brand boxes, 'perishable' items without a shipping label, and sale prices that did not match the page.

  2. 02 · ArchitectureCritical

    Gift boxes three clicks deep

Home › Shop › Fresh › Boxes. The 9 gift products received 2% of internal links and were absent from the XML sitemap.

  3. 03 · ShippingHigh

Delivery zones buried in a PDF

No shippingDetails in Offer markup, no on-page zones. Shoppers in GB could not tell if a chilled box would reach them.

  4. 04 · ContentHigh

    No pages for gift intent

Nothing targeted 'oyster gift box', 'oysters delivered to UK' or 'seafood hamper'. Occasion queries went to marketplaces.

  5. 05 · SeasonalityMedium

    Christmas page relaunched every December

A new URL each year, published in week 49 — too late to earn links or rankings before peak.

  6. 06 · TechnicalMedium

    Variant URLs cannibalising

Dozen, two-dozen and fifty-oyster variants each indexable with duplicate copy and no canonical.

The strategy

Four layers of nacre, laid down in order.

Built on our Commerce SEO plan: fix what machines read first (the feed and the markup), then give people pages that match how they search for gifts, then make the season itself a permanent asset.

  1. Layer 1

    Product feeds

A clean, enriched Merchant Center feed so every box can appear in free Shopping listings across Ireland and the UK.

    • GTIN exemptions set correctly for own-brand boxes
    • Custom labels for occasion, size and delivery zone
    • Order-by dates written into titles in Nov–Dec
  2. Layer 2

    Gift landing pages

One page per gift intent, one click from home, each with a buying guide, photos of the box being opened and clear order-by dates.

    • Anniversary, Father's Day, corporate and Christmas
    • Comparison of box sizes and shucking kits
    • Internal links from every recipe and farm-story post
  3. Layer 3

    Shipping schema

Delivery made explicit to people and machines: OfferShippingDetails per zone, mirrored by a plain-English delivery page.

    • Ireland next-day, NI and GB 48-hour chilled
    • Handling and transit times in structured data
    • Delivery-zone checker linked from every product
  4. Layer 4

    Seasonal categories

Evergreen seasonal URLs that keep their authority year to year instead of being rebuilt every December.

    • /christmas-oyster-gifts kept live all year
    • 'Native oyster season' opens with the R-months
    • Published 10 weeks before peak to earn rankings
